R154 Gearbox Design

This project started as a client approached about designing complete gearboxes. He is based in Australia and the current cost of engineering such a thing locally and having his own team is enourmes.

We have had a few goals in mind here, but the main goal was to achieve a gear set that will handle 1200hp. This gear set is design to fit the R154 gearbox made by Toyota. It is a 5 speed transmission that has been used during the 90's on multiple different Toyota sports cars including the legendary Toyota Supra.

We have started by 3D scanning the OEM gearbox from Toyota. We had to align everything perfectly and get the datums correctly. Once this was done we have continued the task. Without the synchro rings we have much more room to enlarge the gear thickness. And achieving a stronger setup.

The final result is nothing short of perfection. The client produced the gear set with all the accessories we designed for it.
